Recently, at the Creative Space Complex of CMC in Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of CMC Corporation Nguyen Trung Chinh held a meeting with the leadership of NVIDIA Corporation to enhance the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two enterprises.
Participating in the meeting, the NVIDIA delegation included Mr. Keith Strier – Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, Vice President of Global AI Initiatives; Mr. John Ashley – Chief Architect, AI Nations & Director, NVIDIA AI Technology Centers; and Mr. Anissh Pandey – Director of NVIDIA Asia Pacific. On the side of CMC Corporation (CMC) were Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh – Chairman of the Board of Directors/Executive President of CMC Corp, Mr. Ho Thanh Tung – Senior Vice Chairman, CEO of the Corporation, and key technology leaders from both sides. Also attending the meeting were Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, USA; Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Director of the National Innovation Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology; and Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park.
During the working session, CMC leadership introduced the infrastructure of CMC Data Center Tan Thuan, the potential for technology transfer and AI development in Vietnam, as well as the capacity for comprehensive partnership with NVIDIA to provide digital infrastructure for NVIDIA’s AI Factory, Cloud Partner, Service Delivery Partner for the domestic and international enterprise markets. CMC is a leading Information Technology and Telecommunications Group in Vietnam with a history of 31 years of formation and development. With experience and strong capabilities in the field of Information Technology – Telecommunications, CMC and the Ho Chi Minh City government aim for comprehensive strategic cooperation with NVIDIA to build the City into the country’s AI center, focusing on developing AI human resources, applying AI technology to solve the city’s problems, as well as creating new values, making AI technology a driving force for the economic development of Ho Chi Minh City. Conversely, the Ho Chi Minh City government is also committed to creating the best working environment and conditions for companies like NVIDIA and CMC to develop, creating values for all parties, and jointly building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city and the AI center of the country, contributing to making Ho Chi Minh City one of the top 5 leading AI cities in the world and leading other cities in the country’s development. Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, USA, pledged to promote strategic cooperation between the USA and Vietnam through diplomatic channels, soon removing conditions on importing high-tech equipment, supporting strategic cooperation programs between NVIDIA and Vietnamese companies including CMC.
Sharing at the working session with NVIDIA’s senior leadership, Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh stated: “Artificial Intelligence will usher in a new era, an AI era that profoundly affects our human society in all aspects of life, economy, and society. AI is becoming an integral part of CMC’s business plans and development strategies, especially the workforce expected to reach 15,000 IT engineers by 2028, of which 6,000 AI engineers account for 40% of the total workforce of the Group.”
In recent times, CMC has been at the forefront of the cloud computing market with the CMC Cloud Make in Vietnam platform. CMC Cloud is the pioneer domestic cloud providing high-performance computing services on NVIDIA GPU chipset platforms since 2017. Mr. Keith Strier – Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, Vice President of Global AI Initiatives, highly appreciated CMC’s vision and strategy in leveraging the burgeoning AI wave for development alongside the world, while expressing readiness to partner with CMC. Assessing that Vietnam has all the elements to develop strongly and take the lead in artificial intelligence, Mr. Keith Strier, Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, emphasized: “NVIDIA focuses not on business but on cooperative development, so we will accompany Vietnamese enterprises including CMC to accelerate digital transformation, bring Ho Chi Minh City into the top 5 leading AI cities in the world, and make Vietnam an AI powerhouse.”
Responding to the NVIDIA delegation, Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh also affirmed CMC’s strengths in Data Center and Cloud infrastructure, which will propel the collaborative strength between NVIDIA and CMC. Currently, CMC’s Tan Thuan Data Center is designed to adhere to the strictest standards for a modern data center. It is Vietnam’s pioneer Data Center with Uptime Tier III certification for construction and is also the first Data Center in Vietnam to be evaluated for security and risk prevention according to TVRA standards, meeting the digital infrastructure needs for AI Factories in Vietnam and the region. After nearly 7 years of development, CMC Cloud has become Vietnam’s leading domestic cloud service, commanding over 25% market share.
In the future, CMC plans to invest in expanding AI DC at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park with a large scale of 40MW, ensuring readiness for AI Cloud infrastructure as well as dedicated Cloud infrastructure for each customer, thereby providing the AI community with infrastructure and application development environment.
Regarding human resource training solutions, CMC commits to collaborating with NVIDIA to build an AI community, including research, startup, and AI-skilled workforce development to transform 1 million programmers into AI application-capable individuals, of which Ho Chi Minh City accounts for over 65% of the workforce.
The head of CMC stated that CMC University focuses on various factors: faculty, equipment systems, modern training methods with curricula suitable for AI technology laboratories, Semiconductor Chips, etc., to attract talented students to participate in AI, Big Data, Blockchain research and training. It is known that CMC University plans to expand its enrollment scale from 15,000 to 20,000 students by 2033, with 50% in the Information Technology field and intends to incorporate NVIDIA’s training program into teaching AI and IC Design subjects to develop high-tech human resources, contributing to realizing the Government’s target of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.
